American Cool Cities

Charlotte North Carolina:

The government has changed the fuel of cars to a hybrid gas.

Washington DC:

Has changed their buses to natural gas which is less than the diesel fuel to improve air pollution and cut global warming pollution.

St Paul Minnesota:

Providing electricity by using a renewable resource as its primary fuel.

Houston – Texas:

The government has started to reduce emissions by using hybrid vehicles. By the year 2010 they will have no petrol cars. A hybrid vehicles are produce about 43 tones of carbon less than the average of other cars.
Seattle:

They have replaced old vehicles with a “ clean and Green fleet and have sett strict rules about CO2 emission. They have already reduced green house gases by 60 percent.

Fort Collins:

Fort Collins uses renewable energy wind to reduce global warming and has reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 472,000 tons.

Waverly Lowa:

Waverly Lowa municipality has used wind energy to reduce the emission of CO2 in the city. This method who helps provide local economic development.

Marion County Florida:

The government bought the Toyota Privs vehicles because it’s hybrid and useless oil.

My Carbon Footprint: Problems and Solutions

Carbon footprint is a measure of carbon amount “CO2” released in combustion of fossil fuels as part of business daily operations. All human activity has a carbon footprint. Hence, it also measure the impact of our activities on the environment (# of greenhouse gases produced).

I have calculated my Carbon Footprint and I have discovered that my carbon footprint per annum is 13.98. My Carbon footprint measures for other categories were as follow: As for the food, I have scored 20%, which explains that im not eating much meat. My score in traveling section was 30 %( I am using my car most of the day to meet my daily work). However, 20% in house, it’s clear that I’m trying my best to save home energy because I don’t heat my apartment as the weather is already hot.

One of the main problems of my footprint is that I travel a lot using my own car. Hence, I contribute in the air pollution our country is having. Another problem is that when I’m at home I start lightning all the room. This increases the energy used, causing damage to our environment.

Realizing the danger behind Carbon Footprint make me think of changing my habits. For example, instead of using the car all the time, i can walk or use the public transportations. I also decided not to light all the rooms when im at home. However, I will try save home energy. We also can recycle all we can. For example, after drinking juice you can throw the can in the pen.

I believe that if all human united, the global warming issue will solve. I also think that our carbon footprint and global warming might decease if governments make people follow rules to make the country less polluted.

Cool Cities

Introduction to Cool Cities:

The words Cool cities makes all of us think of a nice place, a habitable place. Everyone is seeking a world in which he can use the earth’s resources and where living is inexpensive and attractive.

There are some cities trying to be cool by following some rules. By this I mean, some cities have made a commitment to follow rules to keep people healthy, living happy and secure.

Therefore, zero waste is one rule to have in a cool and clean city. Then people will start coming to these cities which have zero waste because they are clean. In addition, having sustainable transportation will give us cool cities. For example, using cars, airplanes and trains makes the climate change and bring pollution. What’s more, when climate change leads to global warming which is a very dangerous issue. Nevertheless, having public transportation will help to decrease the climate change and pollution. However, using public transportations will less on the pollutions and the change in the climate.

Moreover, we can have a cool city by watching our carbon footprint. By this I mean, the products people use daily has a carbon footprint. Actions taken from countries and individuals (travel by car, home energy and public transportation) affect the climate and global warming. Also our actions add greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. However, reducing greenhouse gas will improve our environment and reduce our energy consumption (Not using the car and walking) will also help in reduce our carbon footprint which will help to reduce the risk of global warming and we will have cool cities.

In this project I’m going to research about different subjects related to cool cities.

Wyh is it called " An Inconvenient Truth " ?

Typically, people don’t think of what the things might affect their life. For example all of us know about Global Warming but we don’t take any action.

What should be done in Abu Dhabi to make people more aware of the situation?

• Force people who drive cars to use pure gas and reduce dezil.

• Introduce classes to educate people about the effect of the global warming and how to avoid it.

• Aware people of the danger of global warming by broadcasting on TV, Magazines and advertisements.

• Preparing TV shows that discusses the issue and allowed people to call and ask on area about it.

• Distribute Brochures in malls and other centers to educate people of the situation.

Summary of An Inconvenient Truth Film

This movie shows the beginning of the environment movement. It explains the meaning of the global warming. As the film shows, the sun’s radiations fall in the earth. Some of the radiations are absorbed and others stay in the atmosphere. That atmosphere is becoming thick due to this, atmosphere and temperature goes up in all countries. The film also explains the measures of Carbon Dioxide levels from 1995 to 2005.

After that we saw the effect of global warming. One affect of global warming is melting the snow of Kilimanjaro. What’s more, 40% of people get drinking water from rivers and springs by the melt water from glaciers. Hence, those people will suffer shortage of this melting.

Variation of the earth’s surface temperature for the past 140 years and for the past 1000 years was discussed in the movie. It’s clear from the graphs that the temperature has been increasing; the hottest of all was 2005. These heat waves killed more than 30,000 people in Europe. Overall, the most of the cities around the world are facing high heat waves, including ocean’s temperature.
The effects of global warming also caused flooding in china. Not only this but the movie explains the infections disease global warming brought such as mosquitoes and 30 other new diseases such as Avian flu, SARS and WEST NILE VIRUS which has spread across the continent.

Reaction to Inconvenient Truth Film:

I think that goverments around the world should take global warming more seriouse. The movie made me think more about the enviroment and the movie also make me think about the risk we are living in.

People also should try not to distroy the enviroment and produce things that will not hurt our enviroment and decrese pollution.

These are pictures shows the movie my classmates and i had watched

It discuss the global warming and its effect on the enviroment and individuals

Carbon footprint

What does carbon footprint mean?

Carbon footprint is a measure of carbon amount “CO2” released in combustion of fossil fuels as part of business daily operations. All human activity has a carbon footprint. Hence, it also measure the impact of our activities on the environment (# of greenhouse gases produced).

Typically, activities, for example, driving a car, traveling on an airplane consume energy. Most of this energy come because of the fossil fuels burning. The ineffective use of transport or car create lots of unnecessary CO which make the climate change, changing our lifestyle.

What can each of us do about out carbon
Ways to reduce our daily Carbon footprint:

1. Plant trees and cultivate more.
2. Save electricity by turning off the cables and applicants you are not using it.
3. Recycle all you can.
4. Buy goods with less packaging.
5. Use the public transportation instead of driving your car.

Measure your own carbon footprint: I have measured my carbon footprint and these were the results from the site:

Your footprint is 3.13 planets
• 20% FOOD
• 30% TRAVEL
• 20% HOME
• 30% STUFF
Equating to an Ecological Footprint of 5.63 hectares
We have also calculated your carbon footprint, which is 13.98 tonnes per annum
