Chilhood+College life & The Future!

When I was a child 19 years ago I used to go to swimming classes everyday with my friends. Back then I was the best swimmer in the team and had participated in many competition with other schools. I have won the golden middle a couple of time and my parents felt so proud of me.

Traveling and exploring the world is of my favorite things that I would do once the opportunity rises. I have been to so several countries Saudi Arabia, Syria, Thailand and Australia. In each country I have visited beauty, peoples’ habits and their customs inspired me the most. It’s like having a fruit of basket where you have crops with different shapes, colors and backgrounds. Another thing that I found it to be interesting to do in free time is reading. I enjoy reading stories specially the fiction stories. In my free time I also love to play football with my friends. If I had the chance to have some free time between my studies and work, I would defiantly go to the movies as I doing this makes my English improve and I get to roam the world just my setting at the movie theater.

At the main time I’m studying at Abu Dhabi Men’s College. It’s a government college hence, they take care of all the expenses. I love this college for it creates a great opportunity for all of the local students to learn and enhance their skills. We are asked to work on projects, sometimes, individual projects other times huge projects, which takes a group of three to four students to get the work done. In addition, we get familiarized with the latest equipment and any new technology. For example, recently the college has provided its students with laptops that have a wireless Internet connection as well as wireless printing. What’s more, while presenting presentations, students are asked to use PowerPoint program, which helps a lot in attracting the audient’s attention, and easy the process of delivering the message of the theme we are covering. Moreover, at college I get the chance also to improve not only the computer skills but also my English language. Instructors are providing us with material with which our listening, reading, speaking and writing skills are getting better day-by-day. The books in the library also help a lot in enhancing our skills and improving our mind because they are informative books. Our library provides student with everything they want. For example, If a student was unable to afford laptop cost, he can go to the library and you’re the computers there at any time he wishes.

In the near future I want to finish my higher education studies by getting a Bachelor degree in health and science. However, in my far future I want to get married to establish my own family who would continue my life journey with me. I want also to have my own business where I can be able to implement the skills I have gained from school, college and life to make it the best business ever.

We’ll save the planet only if we’re forced to

Johann Hari: We’ll save the planet only if we’re forced to.

The writer encourage people to check items they buy and be honest with green consumerism. The reaction of people to the global issue which is Global Warming is waving like the sea. What’s more, that people are harming themselves by making the global warming issue bigger nowadays because they are not seeing the problem.

The planet’s climate would fluctuate and would reach 12 degree in a decade. Given this, it was impssible to develop agriculture. So people couldn’t get the food they want. However, the climate settle down and so the human. Again, people were able to develop farming.

In order to solve this problem, people tried to control the amount of warming gases in to the weather. They try to turn down the thermostat a few degrees and they buy products don’t deal with electricity burning standby. But this is not a good solution to the problem we are facing.

The only way to solve this issue is by making the government force people to change their behavior. For example, people should start eating less meat, fly less and use public transportations to solve the situation. Reducing the amount of greenhouse gases in to the atmosphere is easy if people listen to the law and burn fewer greenhouse gases.

I think the writer is so right what all the things he have wrote in his article. I agree with him that government should put some rules and laws and force people to follow them in order to reduce greenhouse gases and make us live in a better and safer place

One Plant Living and Masdar City

If everyone lived like an average North American we would need 5 planets.

If everyone lived like an average European we would need 3 planets.

If everyone lived like an average Emirati we would need 7 planets.

Our global footprint grew by 150 between 1961 and 2003. It is now 25% above the planet's biological capacity to support life on earth.

The WWF has developed an initiative called One Planet Living. It has ten guiding principles.

Masdar is going to be developed using these principles.

Explain the ten guiding principles using your own words.

Which principles do you think will be difficult for Masdar City to maintain?

What are the three goals of the One Planet Living programme?
10 Principles

Zero Carbon: Human activities affect the climate and creat Co2 in the atmosphere. Hence. zero carbon will be achieved by watching people’s activities like building.

Zero Waste: Getting rid of factory products waste and the products packaging. Some factories tend to throw its waste in the sea. This principle is against this and will try to stop it.

Sustainable Transport: Using transportations a lot cause climate problems such as air, water and noise pollutions. Hence, having sustainable transportations will help in decreasing the pollution.

Local & sustainable materials: Environment damage happen because of manufacturing & construction. Using also non-local material would damage reduce benefit to local community.

Local & Sustainable food: Consumption of non-local food has an impact due to transportations which affect the climate. This happens due to the food quality in local food industry.

Sustainable Water: Because of pollution, offering fresh water to meet human needs became hard. Protecting water to offer good quality and non pollution water to people is one of the principles.

Natural Habitats & wildlife: Animal as well as plant has change in particular habits due to the growth & development that are happening in natural resources such as forest & natural resources such as waterfall.

Culture and Heritage: The change in culture and past traditional practices are lost due to many things like technology. As a result, local identity is loss.

Which Principle do you think will be difficult for masdar city to maintain?

Natural Habits wildlife

What are the goals of one planet living?

Creating a healthy living environment
Decreasing human’s footprint
Make people seek other sources of energy

American Cool Cities

Charlotte North Carolina:

The government has changed the fuel of cars to a hybrid gas.

Washington DC:

Has changed their buses to natural gas which is less than the diesel fuel to improve air pollution and cut global warming pollution.

St Paul Minnesota:

Providing electricity by using a renewable resource as its primary fuel.

Houston – Texas:

The government has started to reduce emissions by using hybrid vehicles. By the year 2010 they will have no petrol cars. A hybrid vehicles are produce about 43 tones of carbon less than the average of other cars.
Seattle:

They have replaced old vehicles with a “ clean and Green fleet and have sett strict rules about CO2 emission. They have already reduced green house gases by 60 percent.

Fort Collins:

Fort Collins uses renewable energy wind to reduce global warming and has reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 472,000 tons.

Waverly Lowa:

Waverly Lowa municipality has used wind energy to reduce the emission of CO2 in the city. This method who helps provide local economic development.

Marion County Florida:

The government bought the Toyota Privs vehicles because it’s hybrid and useless oil.

My Carbon Footprint: Problems and Solutions

Carbon footprint is a measure of carbon amount “CO2” released in combustion of fossil fuels as part of business daily operations. All human activity has a carbon footprint. Hence, it also measure the impact of our activities on the environment (# of greenhouse gases produced).

I have calculated my Carbon Footprint and I have discovered that my carbon footprint per annum is 13.98. My Carbon footprint measures for other categories were as follow: As for the food, I have scored 20%, which explains that im not eating much meat. My score in traveling section was 30 %( I am using my car most of the day to meet my daily work). However, 20% in house, it’s clear that I’m trying my best to save home energy because I don’t heat my apartment as the weather is already hot.

One of the main problems of my footprint is that I travel a lot using my own car. Hence, I contribute in the air pollution our country is having. Another problem is that when I’m at home I start lightning all the room. This increases the energy used, causing damage to our environment.

Realizing the danger behind Carbon Footprint make me think of changing my habits. For example, instead of using the car all the time, i can walk or use the public transportations. I also decided not to light all the rooms when im at home. However, I will try save home energy. We also can recycle all we can. For example, after drinking juice you can throw the can in the pen.

I believe that if all human united, the global warming issue will solve. I also think that our carbon footprint and global warming might decease if governments make people follow rules to make the country less polluted.
